How much will it cost me?

A:

What won’t be taxed: groceries, sales to the U.S. government, sales of prescription medicine and certain medical devices, and sales of items paid for with food stamps. For everything else, the cost of Measure A would depend on the amount of qualified goods or services purchased. For example, the purchase of a $50 qualified item, would add 25 cents in sales tax while buying a $1,200 television would add $6. Measure A would be paid by everyone in Alameda County including visitors making qualified purchases in the county.

Thousands of Alameda County children are on waiting lists for child care and early education programs.
