"We recommend a Yes vote on Measure A."

Alameda County Measure A on the June 5, 2018 ballot, if approved, would enact a half-percent sales tax. It is expected that the tax would generate approximately $140 million annually over a 30-year period.

A two-thirds vote is required to pass the measure.

The money will be used to expand access to childcare and preschool for low and middle-income families. Funds would also be allocated to create more childcare centers and raise wages for childcare workers.

The architecture of the brain is built in early childhood. According to researchers, ninety percent of a child’s brain develops in the first five years of life, and is the most significant from birth to age three. If children have what they need early in life, they are set on a path for future success.

Everyone benefits. A child is more likely to stay in school and out of trouble. Businesses have access to a future educated workforce.

We recommend a Yes vote on Measure A.

Thousands of Alameda County children are on waiting lists for child care and early education programs.
